ONE OF A KIND

What a short and busy week this one has been.
Four days from now we will be on our way to Australia to share our personal and professional experiences as a very unique and diverse team representing Arizona and Rotary district 5490.
We are excited and honored to have such an opportunity!  The next 4 weeks in the New South Wales state of Australia  will be full of well planned (and surely some spontaneous ) vocational, cultural, recreational and Rotary exchanges that we will keep you posted on.  Please join our team with your questions and comments as we embark on this first of it's kind adventure!

  1. As you head off to the Land Down Under, I offer my congratulations for breaking new ground and taking on this challenge with poise, confidence and professionalism.

Getting to know each of you has truly been a pleasure and an honor and I am very proud to have been associated with this team. As an alternate, I appreciate what you are doing, not only for Rotary, Arizona and the USA, but also for the population of able-bodied people who may be astonished by your accomplishments.

You and I know that this opportunity is “all in day’s work” for those of us with a mobility challenge and making this trip is just another example of how extraordinarily common our lives can be. At the chance of sounding arrogant, we are used to setting the bar higher than most and I have witnessed those higher standards over the past few months as I’ve gotten to know you all. With your unique perspective on life and wide ranging backgrounds, you will impact many people in very positive ways and put to rest some assumptions commonly made about the mobility impaired. You each have fantastic skills, knowledge and experiences to share with your respective Australian counterparts and I have no doubt you will represent America in fine fashion.

I wish you only the very best during your trip and that you enjoy the vocational and recreational time you spend in Australia. Have a safe and successful voyage!

  3. Darol and Team,

I am very excited for all of you as you push the envelope to share your courage and adventurous spirit with a world that looks at you from a different perspective. I am always amazed by Darol's seeming lack of disability when it comes to fulfilling his mission and sharing his life. You are all in my prayers. I wish you a safe and prosperous trip. Please take lots of pictures and keep us posted as we follow your blog.
